About Malasiqui

A history rooted in community

Malasiqui’s story reaches from early settlements and Spanish-era organization to the agricultural municipality known today.

01

Origins

Local historical accounts place Malasiqui’s founding in 1671. Don Domingo Manguisesal, Don Diego Catongal and Dominican priest Fr. Juan Camacho are named among the town’s founders.

02

From settlements to municipality

The area developed from early rancherías into an organized town during the Spanish period. Farming, waterways and movement across central Pangasinan shaped the settlement pattern and local economy.

03

A living civic identity

The municipality’s history remains visible in its barangays, agricultural traditions and long practice of local self-government. Today Malasiqui serves 73 barangays while retaining its role as a productive inland community.

Historical names and dates here follow the municipality’s published local account. Additional archival documentation would allow a fuller, source-by-source timeline.
